According to Hg2:
Understatement is not a word that exists in Velours. The antithesis of minimalism, the heady world of Velours is one where antique chic meets over-the-top kitsch: think tinted glass walls, stuffed pheasants, mock crocodile skin, gilt-edged mirrors, zebra print booths and shimmering chandeliers. Not a place for wallflowers, the clientele – a high-octane professional party crowd – is equally averse to the concept of blending in. And the icing on the cake at this temple of maximalism? Undoubtedly the glass catwalk over carefully raked sand – which in practical terms separates the dance floor from the lounge area but in reality provides the perfect clubbing catwalk for some exhibitionist sashaying. Best suited to fun-loving urbanites rather than hardcore clubbers, the club hosts an eclectic array of fashion, design and media parties with varying styles of DJs and entertainment. A place for sashaying, schmoozing and drinking buckets of champagne.

    Yeah...
So like I said, great business opportunity ;) You get paid even if the people who come are crap. Skim a bit more off the top and...who needs a real job, y'know?

Actually we had a really nice party, a good size crowd and nice clientelle. The location being Velours helps attract a nicer crowd as it is a very classy venue. Yeah you can technically make a lot of money even if you attract a bad/sleazy/rowdy crowd of people, but then most people will walk away from your party at the end without a good feeling and many will probably not come back to your events again. Parties are for having fun, and if you can't deliver that to your customers, then you pretty much fail at your job even if you are getting paid for it.

This particular event was not my own party, was just DJing there, but I did feel really good about the crowd, it had a nice positive vibe.

I just find the idea of international parties funny. Japanese are under the assumption they will meet normal foreigners. However, the majority of foreigners in Japan are quite different from what they see on tv. Most foreigners here either couldnt get jobs in their home country, couldnt fit in, fleeing persecution, wanted to escape reality, etc. A normal foreigner would come to Japan to visit but not to live. Unless, they were transferred.
For who would give up a career, ability to easily buy a home, get a credit card,etc.....

No offense to anyone. But the truth is the truth.

    >> W-A-I "ability to easily buy a home,get a credit card,etc....."
I don't really see those things as being overly difficult.
The rest of what you say is pretty much true thought. But then there are the times Japanese seem to be satisfied a foreigner, just because they are.

I +1 that. Plus, why not just call it what it is: "Shag a pet party."

I would assume you are Japanese by your response. So you wouldnt know the reality for foreigners living in Japan. It is extremely difficult for foreigners to get credit cards. And it has nothing to do with salary. Also it is extremely difficult to buy a house by ourselves. It would have to be in a Japanese person’s name. Although most will say this is a safe easy country to live in. At the same time it can be racist and xenophobic.

    >>W-A-I

I think you have a bit of a persecution complex going on, judging from your posts. "Normal" foreigners wouldn't want to live in Japan? Really? Who are you to define what "normal" is? And what's your excuse since you're here? Especially considering that the only communities you're enrolled in appear to be meet-a-gaijin-centers...

International parties are a cute idea in theory because the kind of Japanese people who go to them are so sheltered that when they want to meet foreigners, they need their hands held in a structured environment. The foreigners are almost all teachers-for-life or in the financial industry, which means that they're probably some of the least interesting people in Japan.

And anyone who you might actually want to meet? They have better things to do than pay 3000y to stand in a smoky club, sip watered-down drinks, and try desperately to pick up a piece of strange.

    Dan,

Persecution and reality are two different things. Some foreigners are so happy to be here that they overlook how they are treated.
Foreigners could be musicians or DJs here. Where as,they couldnt do it in NY. And this is why they overlook or ignore reality.

Most western countries could never get away with treating foreigners how we are treated here.

And Dan. If you are checking out my profile and communities. You are only proving my point.

Anyway, you will get annoyed and respond. However,I cant be bothered.
