Supporting“Orange Ribbon Movement Japan”, Stop Abusing Children!
Harlem Blues & Jazz Band, Japan Tour
Legendary Blues & Jazz Band in US will visit Japan as 1st. time! Great collaboration with young Japanese dancers, singers and musicians in 5 different cities.
“Tour will be supported by 5 government’s office and 4 organizations in Japan!”
Harlem Blues & Jazz Band (HBJB) is the world’s most authentic swing band. It stars veteran Jazz and Blues musicians whose roots reach to the classic period of the 1920s and 1930s. HBJB was founded in 1973 by Clyde Bernhardt and Albert Vollmer, these “originals” actually “jumped” at the Woodside and “stomped” at the Savoy with Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Lionel Hampton, “Fats” Waller, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, and other jazz great, these are the artists who create new genre of music for America. HBJB, touring since 1976, has been called ‘a national treasure’, and has been enthusiastically embraced by audiences around the world. HBJB was filmed and received world premier screening at the “Tribeca Film Festival, 2004.”
This HBJB Japan tour was produced by Kyoko Uchiki, Japanese female producer and supporting member of Orange Ribbon Movement Japan (ORMJ), who produced “GOSPEL NOW”, “Jazz’n Gospel”, “Yolanda Adams Japan Tour’ and others. Kyoko Uchiki made cooperation with 5 different government offices, 4 organizations and stage crew to support “ORMJ” and will produce “Charity concert for ORMJ”. ORMJ had been started since 2004 when 2 children’s dead bodies were thrown into the river by their parents after physical abuse. Since 2006, the government has started to support ORMJ and started a campaign to “Stop Abusing Children!” .
“We have a lot of collaborating opportunities between senior and youth through culture in my second home town “Harlem”. NY and my home town Tokyo are very similar; high apartment rents, a lot of single mothers, high cost of living…..very tough. But in Harlem, we are trying to support each other in the community. HBJB is travelling to promote Jazz and Blues for younger generations and making a lot of opportunity for collaboration with young artists. I believe it will be one of the factors to think about ORMJ. I would like that all Japanese audiences could enjoy Great Harlem Blues & Jazz Sound at the show but also think about the collaboration between senior and youth in their community. If your community is close through culture without separation of different generations, it will be easier then for the whole community to watch over children” (by Kyoko Uchiki’s proposal to government.)
