−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−− Let’s learn how to use Furoshiki, a traditional square cloth.
This cloth has been used by Japanese people since ancient times to carry and wrap gifts or decorate a room. It has been called Furoshiki, which literally means a “bath mat,” since the mid-Edo period when many people started to use it to carry their clothes to the public bath and placed it on the floor as a bath mat. An important feature of Furoshiki is that it can be continuously reused, and so it is environmentally friendly. The colors, patterns and wrapping styles are all unique to Japanese culture. Furoshiki are used not only for the convenience of carrying items, but also when giving something to someone to show that you respect them. Even now, Furoshiki play an important role in wedding ceremonies and funerals. In this workshop we will learn a variety of wrapping styles. The holidays are approaching and Furoshiki are wonderful for wrapping holiday gifts. Come join us and learn Furoshiki Wrapping!
