Lano it seems is only mention in Waipio Valley legend. Not sure why it is not listed with the other Hawaiian gods. But if you do a search for the Hawaiian god Lano it takes you to Waipio Valley.
Waipio Valley is a fascinating place and I know your friends will have an interesting time. Not recommended to go down there when it is raining or heavy winds.
On the other end of the island is Pohoiki Boat Ramp, to get there you will have to go through a tree tunnel of a few miles. Once you get there it is another interesting location. You have to be a good surfer to surf there, very sharp lava rock reefs. ( attached pictures of tree tunnel and Pohoiki Boat Ramp) Be careful of strangers, some are very nice and have the aloha spirit and others pretend to be cool but will steal from you.

2. turning around and looking back at where I came from
3. the coastline at the boat ramp
4. the boat ramp and the surf spots
Then if you take the road west from the Boat Ramp to Kalapana you will enter another tree tunnel which is along the ocean. Tall Banyan trees on one side of the road with its branches going into the ocean on the other side. That tunnel is about few miles also.
I was just over there in Hawaii visiting friends and had a good time.
