Much like the bamboo plants that dominate Japan’s landscape,
Shuta Hasunuma’s piano work on his new album OK Bamboo has an enduring, simple elegance.
OK Bamboo’s title and compositions are the result of Hasunuma’s interest in the ancient relationship between Japan and bamboo.
As he explains, “In Japan, bamboo is revered as a plant sharing properties of both wood and grass.
It also has an enduring and remarkable strength. After bombings in times of war, when all of the people are killed and the buildings destroyed, often the bamboo plants are all that’s left standing.”
Each track flits and twitters, growing and changing without warning.
The result is a collection of enchantingly beautiful compositions full of meticulous details.
This perfectly executed collage of digital and organic sounds immediately feels familiar and intimate, as it demands your attention.

蓮沼執太の最新アルバム「OK Bamboo」のピアノは素朴でありながら
揺るぎない気品が漂い、それはまるで日本に多く生殖する竹のようだ。
「OK Bamboo」というタイトルと曲は、
日本古来における竹との係わりに対する蓮沼の興味から生まれた。
「日本で竹は、木と草の特性を兼ね備えた植物として親しまれてきました。
それに竹は永続的で、驚くほどの強さがある。
戦時下に、空襲で人が死に建物が焼け朽ちても、
竹だけはそこに残っていたんです。」と蓮沼は説明する。

一曲一曲が軽やかにさえずり、その音が予告なしに増長し変化する。
その結果、細部にまで気を配った、ほれぼれするほど美しいアルバムに仕上がっている。
この完璧に演奏された、デジタルとオーガニックなサウンドの融合作品は

About Dub party Elephant Cough
　2006年7月に幕を明けたElephant Coughは不定期ながらその活動の根を地に深く張り巡らせ、2008年4月、ようやくvol.6を迎えることになる。

　Elephant Coughレギュラー陣に加え、毎回列強のゲストを迎え確実に着実に強度を増しながら成長して来た同イベントは、“シーン”や”フィールド”に寄りかかることなく、真剣に実直に音に向き合った者たちが繰り広げるdubパーティーである。これまでも、ゲストにはDry & Heavy、Night Jungleのベーシスト;master pataのスペシャルDJセットをはじめ、元champion bass、現在も独自の道をひたすら歩みゆくjahtome、jive one familyからはchikoが迎えられた。vol.3以降も、魅惑のjazzy vibesで魅せてくれた一夜かぎりのスペシャルユニットYoshie Nakamura ＋ Tamashi Goto、昨年ファイルレコードよりリリースされたソロアルバム”playa paraiso”が記憶に新しい、fussy from WACK WACK RHYTHM BAND、どんな場所も確実にロックするdj、NZAなどジャンルの枠も無いもの同様に交配が繰り返された。またその後も、バンドでの活動再開を切に祈りたいCULTIVATORからはshanty-Nob、さらには国内new rootsシーンの最前線、最強にして最凶の女衆DUB BAND "KiLLA SiSTA"からはベースYURIKOが本人のベースプレイ同様、超ド級のヘビーなダブを持って参戦。果ては、言わずと知れた朝本 浩文が問答無用のプレイで前回Vol.5を締めくくった。

　上記ゲスト陣の荒波の中でもその個性を埋没させること無く立ち続けたNatsume Tomonori、GENERIC KINGDOM、bottomfoundation。音だけに留まらず毎回映像でその空間を構築するレギュラーのzero waveも、kitsuneジャパンツアーを経て一層そのスキルに磨きをかけてvol.6に望む。
そして、今回のvol.6には昨年PROGRESSIVE FOrMからリリースされた3rdアルバム"HOORAY"が記憶に新しい気鋭のミニマリストShuta Hasunuma、前出のfussy from WACK WACK RHYTHM BANDをゲストに迎え、Elephant Coughはまた新たなフェーズに突入していく。
