Gender Roles (Advanced)
1. What are the stereotypical roles for men and women, and have they changed over the years?
2. Recently Julia Gillard became Australia's first female Prime Minister, joining the likes of Margaret Thatcher (UK), Helen Clark (NZ) and Angela Merkel (Germany). Does the gender of the PM make any difference? Would you be more likely to vote for a woman than a man?
3. Who is the greatest female in Japanese history? How about the greatest man?
4. Who does the majority of the housework – the husband or the wife?
In Australia it was recently shown that men worked more hours than women and spent an average of 2 hours more per week with their children than women. Is this a significant statistic? Is it the same for Japan?
