Your abdominal core is the source of strength and will-power. When properly developed, you move from your center which encourages safe and proper use of your muscles, connective tissues and joints. A weak core can result physically in discomfort, pain and injury; and emotionally it can contribute to indecisiveness, low self-esteem and depression. Kundalini Yoga is centered around developing a strong navel connection and is one of the best traditional yogas for doing this work. We will practice a set specifically designed rto unlock personal power, build muscular strength and tone the abdomen. ※Energy is locked away in our navel center, which relates to will-power, personal strength, passion, and the ability to process and digest both physical and subtle energies. So when we do practices that focus on abdominal strength and the navel chakra, we can tap into this energy which brings more transformative heat and powerful energy into our lives. It is like turning on a dull or sleeping part of ourselves and working with it to reach full efficiency and capacity.
Kundalini Yoga was brought to the West by Yogi Bhajan and is part of the larger umbrella of Hatha Yoga. It focuses on developing will power, balancing and strengthening the physical and subtle systems of the body as well as healing the organs, blood, nervous system, glandular systems, bones, tissues and cells. It combines traditional Hatha Yoga asanas (postures) with pranayama (breath), mantra (sounds) and meditation (concentration), making Kundalini Yoga a very potent path of self-mastery. This style of yoga is perfect for beginners, for one does not need to be strong, flexible, or otherwise experienced. The exercises are dynamic, so one will move in a pose or hold it for 1-2 minutes and use powerful (or gentle if a person needs to take it easy) breathing to cultivate heat and release tension and obstacles from the body. A lot of people like this style because the effects are felt immediately and goes very deep. After a session, one usually feels very relaxed yet has a lot of creative energy. It is a most healing practice that balances all parts of the body and prepares one to be able to get more out of any other kind of yoga practice they may have. It is very common for people to practice both Kundalini and Hatha (Iyengar, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, etc.) together. They are a perfect balance.
