様々なテクノミュージックに影響を与え続けるALEX PATTERSONとTHOMAS FEHLMANNによる 「THE ORB」のライブセットがここ京都で実現する。彼らが世界中に与えた影響は計り知れない。 エレクトリックダンスミュージックが、屋内そして野外に放たれたのだ。 彼らは、音楽という人工物に、終焉の結果を与えずに果てしない進化の種を蒔いた。 プログレッシブロック、サイケデリックジャムミュージック、そしてパンクニューウェーブ、 彼らの音には様々なルーツを感じる。バンド音楽の限界が見え隠れした時代、 シンセサイザーやリズムボックス等様々な科学技術による楽器の使用可能性を求めた先人達がいた。
「THE ORB」はそういった音楽をJAMES BROWNやPINK FLOYD等と同じラインに押し上げた功労者であるのだ。 今回の企画CULTURATI meets THE ORB LIVE SET!!は、時代を指し示すものになるに違いない。 彼らも大きく貢献したであろう野外でのダンスパーティー(＝RAVE)、その形成に。 しかし、皆が現在知っているように、ここ東アジア日本においても様々な問題に直面している。 70年代サイケデリックムーブメント、80年代パンクムーブメント、90年代レイブムーブメント、 そして00年代何かムーブメントが起きたのか？何も無かったのではないか？ これから10年代、何かが起きることを願っている。時代それは、皆が作るもの。 発信者だけが作るわけでない。PUNKSの世界では、お客さん一人一人がアーティストなのだと。（オーガナイザー：ナパーム田所）

Known together as THE ORB, the duo of Alex Patterson and Thomas Fehlmann will be doing a live set in Kyoto. They have continued to influence techno music over the years. There is indeed no way to measure the impact that they have had on music all over the world. They have set electronic music free indoors and out. Refusing to give in to this man-made demise of music, they have sown the seeds of evolution. From progressive rock, psychedelic jam music, to even new-wave punk, you can feel so many musical influences in the roots of their sound. They are truly pioneers, who when started to feel the limitations of their music with other instruments, embraced technology in the form of synthesizers and beat boxes. This makes them similar in that effect to artists like James Brown and Pink Floyd, who made outstanding contributions to music.
The event, CULTURATI meets THE ORB “LIVE SET”!! will, without doubt, be a show for the times! A dance party along the lines of the out door raves that they so heavily contributed to. As you know, here in East Asia, we are faced with many problems. In dealing with that, there was the Psychedelic Movement in the ‘70s, the Punk Movement in the ‘80s, the Rave Movement in the ‘90s… was there a movement this last decade? Maybe this will prove to be the movement of the next decade. All together we make a decade. Not just those sending out the waves, but all people all over the world, each and every one of us is an artist.
