Do you enjoy balancing poses and want to explore them more? Do you find it difficult to balance on your hands, your head or standing on one leg? Do you feel fear in balancing poses? Balance in asana can be achieved by paying close attention to alignment, muscle activation and the breath. Overcoming fear can be achieved by learning to cultivate a playful approach to poses in a safe environment. When we use these tools for balancing, all of our poses will feel more steady and free.
Session 1: 2/15/09 4-6pm: We will break down poses and explore them slowly to better understand the dynamics of each pose. We will modify poses using props and through pair work to build confidence. We will learn which muscles to engage and how to align the body to achieve optimal balance in our asana practice.
Session2: 2/22/09 4-6pm: We will incorporate what we have learned to balance and flow gracefully from pose to pose in a vinyasa class. We will play with the poses we have learned in sequences, connecting our breath and our movement. Understand and feel the benefits of balancing poses through this class.
As we bring our physical bodies into balance we are also bringing our thoughts, emotions and consciousness into balance. Learning to use these tools to balance in your asana practice can assist you in creating more balance in your life as well.
