Atsuhiro Ito Born in 1965, Ito embarked on a career as a visual artist in the late 1980s. In 1998, he began to do sound performances at art exhibitions. Ito invented his original musical device, the OPTRON, which makes use of fluorescent tubes, which Ito also uses in his art installations. Over the years, he has continued to refine the instrument and to approach sound and music from a contemporary-art-based perspective. Apart from his solo exhibitions and performances, he has been an active member of a number of music units such as “Optrum,”an explosively loud “extreme optical noise core” band consisting of Ito and the drummer Yoichiro Shin. Between 2000 and 2005, Ito organized various sound (music)/visual image-related events at the gallery/free space “Off Site.”Optrum released an album “recorded” in June 2006 with the label UNKNOWNMIX(HEADZ). In 2009, Ito launched his ownlabel “GOTOBAI recordings.”
