Dan Baird 本名Daniel John Baird-1953.12.12 カリフォルニア州サンディエゴ生まれ。
1980年に家族と共にジョージア州アトランタに移る。１〜２週間後には、ギターリストRick Richards、ベーシストKeith Christopher、ドラマーDavid Michaelsonと出会い、Keith & The Satellitesを結成するが、Christopher と Michaelsonがその後脱退。Baird と Richardsの２人で活動を続け、1984年に、British Making Waves labelから、6曲入りのEP「Keep The Faith」を発表する。
その後、Bairdは、Terry Andersonの在籍する、The Woodpeckersに合流し、Richardsとは離れる。一方でRichardsは、ベーシスト Rick Price 、ドラマーMauro Magellan とともに、The Hellhoundsを結成。バラバラに活動していくが、やがて、合流し、ジャムを繰り返していた。
そんな時、Elektra RecordsがEPの売れ行きに注目。The Hellhoundsを急遽、バンドとして正式結成。Georgia Satellites-Dan Baird(vo,g) Rick Richards(g,vo) Rick Price(B) Mauro Magellan(drs)-として、メジャーデビューすることになる。
1986年、セルフタイトルでデビューアルバムを発表。「Keep Your Hands To Yourself」がビルボードヒットチャート第２位の大ヒット。
1988年セカンドアルバム「Open All Night」
1989年「In The Land Of Salvation & Sin」
と、名実ともに一流バンドの一つとなった。
1990年、Danは自らをバンドから首にする。その後、
1992年「Love Songs For The Hearing Impaired」
1996年「Buffalo Nickel」
と２作のソロアルバムを発表。実力を見せつけた。
2001年、Dan Baird & The Sofa Kingsとして「Redneck Savant」のライブアルバムを発表。バンドプロデュースなど裏方の仕事にも携わるようになる。
同時に、Terry Anderson、Keith Christopher、Eric "Roscoe" AmbelとThe Yayhoosを結成。
2001年、「Fear Not The Obvious」をリリースした。
2002年、The Yayhoos、Dan Baird & Friends (Dan Baird, Ken McMahan, Keith Christopher and Mauro Magellan)の両方で、ヨーロッパツアーを敢行。大成功を収めた。
2003年、「Out of Mothballs」
をDan Bairdのソロアルバムとして、発表。
2005年、Dan Baird & The Homemade Sinとして、2004年のツアーをライヴで収めた、初のアルバム「Feel So Good」をリリース。
2006年、The Yayhoosのセカンドアルバム、
「Put The Hummer Down」をリリース。
さらに2006年5月、2003年にチャリティプロジェクトのために、Rick Richards と結成された、The Mystic Knights of the Sea の「Johnny'99」（Light of Day-A Tribute to Bruce Springsteen」に収録）がシングルカットされた。
2007年12月、Dan Baird & The Homemade Sinで、「Fresh Outta Georgia Live Like A Satellite」(2CD)をリリース。
2008年1月、前出の「Out Of Mothballs」を紙ジャケットタイプで再リリース。
2008年7月、前作から5年振りとなる、待望のオリジナルアルバム、「Dan Baird and Homemade Sin」をリリース。
2009年3月、Dan Baird and Homemade Sin のホームページが完成。
現在もツアーを中心に精力的な活動を続けている。
