Kath&Kim
Kath&Kim is an Australian comedy series, 3 series in all, that achieved incredible popularity in Australia. It was then bought by the British, where it now airs on BBC-TV.
It is a story revolving around Kath and her daughter Kim, their respective husbands and a family friend. It is very, very funny.
It is set in an outer Melbourne suburb called Fountain Lakes, which actually exists. Kath and her daughter Kim speak Australian English, as you would expect, but a mangled version full of malapropisms. That is one of the key comedic ingredients. Don’t watch Kath&Kim thinking it is a great opportunity to learn English. Rather, see it as an example of less fortunate native speakers of Australian English coming to grips with the various turns of phrase and nuances of English, but still getting their message across.
It provides you with a glimpse into the lives of Australia’s aspirational classes as seen by those who don’t belong in these classes. It shows a mother who is slightly neurotic but full of warmth and generosity, a daughter who is a …..complete bitch, and the men in their lives. And Sharon, the long suffering no-luck-in-love ‘second best friend’ of Kim.

原則として、番組は母役のKathと娘役のKim、それぞれの主人や家族の友達の一人に付いてです。見て、ゲラゲラ笑ってたまらないんですよ。
ロケ地はメルボルンの郊外にあるFountain Lakesという町で、実際にその町は存在しています。当たり前ですが、Kathと娘役のKimとその他はオーストラリアの英語を話していますが、その英語はこっけいに誤用された言葉だらけのぶち壊した版です。しかし、そんな喋り方は番組のコメディのポイントの一つです。英語の勉強には最適だと思って、見るべきだと思わないでください。むしろ、そんなに教育水準の面や社会階級の面で運が着いていないオーストラリア人の英語話者の英語のニュアンスや言い回しと戦いながら言いたいことが実に言えるとしてのコメディを見た方がいいのではないでしょうか。
番組を見ながらオーストラリアの熱望的な社会階級を垣間見るこｔができます。しかし、番組の制作者はその階級に属していないのに………….ちょっぴりノイローゼにかかったのに暖かくて気全がよい母役や全くいじわる女というbitchの娘役やそれぞれの旦那を見せる番組です。そして、娘役のKimの
ベストフレンドに次いでのSharonです。
このKath&Kim何てアメリカのテレビ界にはありえないでしょう。
