Mighty South London Electro Rockers Clor take Cargo by storm
This month Eddy Temple-Morris welcomes one of the buzz bands of the moment, Clor who’ll be performing tracks from their stunning eponymous their debut album, ‘Clor’. Support comes from their touring partners, The Envelopes. Special guest DJ’s are the wonderful Deekline and The Wizard with MCs Ivory and Darrison, who’ll be pumping out their monster bass lines and cool breaks.
Clor are a 5 piece band from South London Luke Smith (Guitar), Barry Dobbin (Guitar/Vox,) Rob Earland (Keyboards), Max Taylor (Bass) and Harry Bennett (Drums). Clor are a futuristic pop band of the colour nobody makes anymore. Their self-titled album is a flawless masterpiece of disassociated male sexuality and, has since well and truly earned his reputation in the dance scene having worked with legends like Arthur Baker, Rennie Pilgrem and Freq Nasty.
Curiously for a band that formed over two years ago, The Envelopes have, by the reckoning of lead singer/guitarist Henrik Orrling, only spent around 30 days rehearsing together. That isn’t a reflection on the band’s dedication to their singular and outre’ pop music, but a consequence of them (up until February of this year) living in four different cities across two different countries. The Envelopes manage to sound like some of your favourite bands whilst simultaneously sounding like nobody but themselves. There debut album Demon is out now. You may know MC Darrison from his outings with the Freestylers and Ivory from his work with Eddy's Top Tips for 2005, The Breakfastaz.
Deekline and The Wizard aka Nick Annand and Greg Fleming are the hottest production team to rock the dance scene in years and although their backgrounds are probably as diverse as you can get this has seen a formidable and unique style coming through. Their music style draws on electro, the UK garage scenes, the UK bass scenes, Miami bass, hip-hop and breakbeat. They have already captured interest from dance heavyweights notably MJ Cole, The Stanton Warriors and Plump DJs to name but a few with their initial release “4x4x4” and the “Ill Street/Truth You” EP. July saw the release of the duo’s first album, “Breaks, Beats and Blondes”.
