Makaibari is a single proprietor garden, a tradition that has been carried down the last four generations. Rajah Banerjee, the present owner, is the fourth generation scion running this unique estate. Since 1996, Makaibari has been producing an almost magical tea, a second flush, muscatel-style Silver Tip, which carries the best aroma of passing spring. It is produced in small quantities - for very select people - from poly-clonal varieties found nowhere else in the world. And the leaves are picked by the best women pluckers on full moon nights!

Makaibari Silver Tips was awarded the world record price of US $400 in 1996 by the American Tea Masters Association, regarded as the most choosy, finicky club of tea lovers. Silver Tips is currently the costliest tea in the world, but Makaibari is continuously experimenting with bettering its own magic. Silver Tips is produced only on request from the right buyers. It is the ultimate biodynamic tea from the garden, which was the first in the world to be awarded the biodynamic tea certificate by Demeter.
