■biography ::

Ted Chen (vocals, bass), Nick Kamuda (guitar, keys, vocals), and Seth Thomas (vocals, guitar) met in St. Louis at art school during the late 1990's. There, they briefly played experimental pop music together as Jean Paul Belmondo. Three years later, in Seattle, they reconnected and reconceived the band, adding fourth member John Wright (percussion) shortly thereafter. During a lengthy gestation period, the band developed an adventurous and detail-oriented style of modern pop-- a style punctuated by electronic bleeps, open-minded arrangements, computer use, and lyrics that ride a thin line between intelligence and nonsense. The band soon made it out of their basement and, in 2004, built confidence on stage with a dynamic, if quirky, live show. In late 2004, they carried their momentum into the studio and began work on their debut record, Young People.
