2006年度は、「通訳案内士試験ガイドライン」による初めての試験だったが、英語第２次口述試験の主な特徴は次のようなものであった。
【1】なるべく多くの合格者を出すという国際観光振興機構（国土交通省）の意向が強く感じられる平易な質問が多かった。
【2】2005年度以前に頻出していた時事、政治、経済関連の質問がほとんどされなかった。
【3】東京、京都、福岡のいずれの試験会場も、下記の質問がよく聞かれた。
