☆NihonJack⇔日本ジャック☆コミュのHow do you say "年度(ねんど)" in English?

A year begins on January 1st and ends on December 31st. However, ”年度”begins on April 1st and ends on March 31st in Japan. We can use this word as a meaning of school year and also, as a meaning of financial year.

My questions are below;
?When does ”年度”begin and end in your country?

?"Between January and October of 2009, we wiil work through all the issues regarding implementing commercial activity, and we expect to join ○○in the fourth quarter of 2009."

This sentense above was written on a COMPANY newsletter. This is an American company. In this case, does this 2009 mean 2009年度?

If it's a Japanese company, it usually means 2009年度 so that the period "the fourth quarter of 2009" means from January to March of 2010.

I hope you understand what i'm trying to ask.

I think the beginnig of the fiscal year for most of the schools in Japan is on the 2nd of April and it ends on the 1st of the next April... At least schools I went to in Japan have a fiscal year ending on the 1st of April and the university I went to has one ending March.
Also, the company I work for (which is in Japan) has a fiscal year ending September.
In English we say "fiscal year" for companies and not all start at the same time which is confusing. Right now it might be the 2008 or 2009 'fiscal year' depending on when you start counting the quarters.

For school we talk about the school year but most schools are on holidays in July and August so usually the school year is just September to June. For remedial work, there is "summer school". Some universities are semestered and have summer courses in the summer semester.

Thank you very much for your good explanations.
