■GW(4/28〜5/8)にエチオピアのダナキル砂漠横断を計画しており、ツアーメイトを募集します(ダナキル砂漠については、下記説明をご参照願います)。近年外国人にも入域が許された当地は、世界で最も過酷な大地と呼ばれており、異惑星のような光景は正に、秘境中の秘境です。日本人の個人旅行者で訪れた方はほぼいないと思われます(旅行記がないので(笑))。簡単に観光には行けない場所ではありますが、今回GW期間中にアタックするべく計画しており、現在当方にてアレンジしております。今回募集にいたった経緯ですが、一つに費用面です。現地オペレーターに支払う費用が多額(バックアップ用の車と軍人3人の同行費用等が大きい)であるという点です。当初は2人で行くことを計画していましたが、一人当たりのコスト負担が高かったため、費用平準化のために募集をさせて頂いた次第です。また、やはり前述の通りなかなか行けない場所ではあるので、ご賛同頂ける方がいれば、折角の機会なのでどうかなと、思った次第です。もしご興味のある方がいらっしゃればご連絡頂けると幸いです。

【ダナキル砂漠とは】
⇒世界で最も過酷な大地といわれるダナキル砂漠(エリトリア南部、エチオピア北東部にまたがる砂漠）。アフリカ大陸の東側には幅約60km、長さ約6000km続く地球で最も巨大な断層“アフリカ大地溝帯”があります。その“大地溝帯”の中に広がる“世界で最も過酷な場所”“Hell on earth”がダナキル砂漠です。海抜マイナス１５０メートルを切る盆地で、夏には気温７０℃を超えます。
緑、赤、黄色、カラフルで毒々しい岩塩湖の風景、地球創世の姿を見せてくれる火山、遊牧民(アファール族)が「悪魔のすみか」というエルタ・アレ火山などもあります。

Day 1 April 29 Arrival in Addis airport and drive to-Awash
Drive towards east of Addis to visit the lower Awash national park. With an area of eight hundred Twelve (812) sq kms, located 225 km east of Addis Ababa the Awash National park hosts more than 400 hundred bird species and many other Wild animals like Oryx, caracal, colobus & velvet monkeys, klipspringers, greater & lesser kudus, reed buck, water buck, warthog, etc. Near the Northern boundary of the park, there is an extensive area of hot mineral water- fed pools fringed with trees.

Day 2 April 30 Awash-Logia-Afdera
After lunch continue driving to Alo-loped to visit a Mud Volcano, Geyser and all colorful hot spring pools.
After having lunch in Logia continue driving to Afdera for arrangement of permission paper and pick the accompanying police for the rest of the trip).
Afdera is one of the famous salt mines in the country. Visit the salt mine to see local people do their daily business and the Lake as well. Lake Afdera is about 100 kms square highly saline body of water fed by the abundant thermal springs. Afdera is 103 meters below sea level and registered as one of the five lowest places in the world.

Day 3 May 1 Afdera- Kursawad- Ertale
Drive north to Kursawad for lunch and to arrange the camels to carry our materials for the trekking to Mount Erta Ale. This is done through the local chief of the Afar nomadic tribe. After lunch having some rest, we start the drive in the early afternoon to El Dom (the base of Erta Ale). El Dom is about 17 km away from Erta Ale and it takes about 3 hours trekking to reach the lava lake. Early dinner around 1730 or 1800 and trek up to Ertale. Camels transport all the camping materials, water and food to the rim of the volcano, where we spend the night watching the dramatic action of the boiling lava. Erta Ale ranks one of the most alluring and physically challenging natural attractions anywhere Ethiopia. It is a shield volcano with a base diameter of 30 km and 1 km square caldera at its summit. Erta Ale contains the world’s only permanent lava lake.

Day 4 May 2 Ertale-Hamed Ela Return from Ertale to the base camp,
Leave after an early breakfast, if possible at 06:30. You will reach late at 10:30am at the camp and have breakfast, and then continue driving to Hamed Ela, A nearby village of Dallol
This is may be one of the worst roads in the world. The 80 km distance may take about 5 hours passing through challenging landscape of solidified lava, rock, sand and occasional palm lined oasis. After you pass several small hamlets scattered here and there in this desert land, you reach Hamed Ela, better village with a total population about 500 people.

Day 5 May 3 Hamed Ela-Dallol-Hamed Ela
Hamed Ela is a spring boards for the visit of Dalol depression and the salt mine. It is located on the caravan track. After breakfast, drive to Ragged (Asebo), the place where the localities are mining salt. Look the activity of breaking the salt from the ground, cutting in to rectangular pieces and loading on camels. You drive ahead to Dalol and visit the different landscape formed by volcanic activity, back to Hamad Ela

Day 6 May 4 Hamed Ela-Mekele
The drive is to get out of the Danakil depression. You pass through a small town of Berhale where the camel caravans stop before they proceed to the northern highlands. En route you see many long camel caravans coming to the salt mine and others going out the Danakil with their salt loaded camels. Arrive Makale which was once the capital city of Ethiopia. It is now one of the big towns in the country. Depending on the time, we can visit the Museum in Makale, which was originally the palace of Emperor Yohanes of 18th century.

Day 7 May 5 Mekele-Lalibela
Drive down to lalibela enjoying the beautiful Tigray mountains for the overnight.

Day 8 May 6 Lalibela
The rest of the day will be spent in Lalibela town exploring the eleven 13th century rock hewn churches that have been carved into the rugged mountainsides, now rightly acknowledged as one of the wonders of the world

Day 9 May 7 Fly Lalibela-Addis
Morning be transfer to Lalibela airport for your flight to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival to Addis Ababa airport be meet by Visit’s representative and take the half day city tour of Addis.
At dinner time, head to one of the cultural restaurants and enjoy watching the Ethiopian traditional dancing and have Ethiopian traditional dinner. At time of departure, be transferred from the hotel to Addis Ababa airport.
