Will Bates, Londoner and producer of dance records, moved to New York in 2002. He met guitarist James Rickman at a Lower East Side bar, and over the course of several pints they discovered a mutual hunger to start a band. Rickman and bassist Josh Nelson had moved from Santa Cruz, California, having played music together since sixth grade. Iowa native Ryan Gruss came to New York via Los Angeles and Boston. It was discovered that he could play the drums and trigger samples at the same time, and this dexterity resulted in The Rinse sound: at once dense and lean, complex and insidiously catchy.
To date, The Rinse have toured the West and East Coasts, playing countless shows in their home base of New York City. This past summer found them in London, playing notorious nights like Death Disco, Blow Up Metro and Club Fandango - capping everything off with a sold out Hammersmith Apollo gig. Now, back in their Williamsburg HQ, the band is preparing the release of their first UK single, with Bates producing and an army of British and American djs waiting to remix. 2006 will also bring the release of their much anticipated debut album. Over the next few months the band will be getting out there again, showing the world's clubs and dance floors the meaning of Rinsing It: rocking to within an inch of your life.
