Mitch Mitchell
1947-2008

It is with deep sadness that Ludwig Drum Co. mourns the passing of the legendary Mitch Mitchell. Mitchell's aggressive drumming and classic tonality propelled the sound of the Jimi Hendrix Experience to superstardom, and for a time, Ludwig was his drum of choice.

"He was one of my favorites but we never met until Oct 26th." recalls Ludwig family statesman, Bill Ludwig III. "When I was playing in a band we did a lot of Hendrix, which I proudly told him during our hang in Chicago. I asked the tour manager to get me his e-mail so we could stay in touch, and he said, 'No problem I will talk to Mitch tomorrow and give him your info'.....not meant to be." Included here are photos of Mitch and Bill taken that night. "The tour manager just sent me pictures of that evening Tuesday, he passed Wednesday. What a nice, nice man."

Ludwig salutes the memory of this great player, and is grateful for his contribution to the Legacy.
