☆NAOKI THE KID ワ〜ルドへようこそ☆
☆放浪癖ARTIST☆NAOKI THE KID☆
NAOKI THE KID was born in Tottori, western Japan, in 1978. His father was an amateur sculptor and painter and Naoki grew up surrounded by pictures. After high school he went to Australia to study English. He was always sketching, and one day a friend said the painting Naoki was working on was so good that he wanted to have it.
That changed the young artist’s attitude to what he was doing. He decided that he would keep his graffiti-influenced style, but make work that people would see as real paintings. Back in Japan, he began selling his work on the street in Tokyo and in Hiroshima.
After coming to Vancouver in 2004 he began selling postcards of his work. Then he received an order for a CD jacket. He has been asked to design tattoos and a hip-hop concert poster. He started printing his work on canvas and in December, 2005 he had his first exhibition, at the Ayden Gallery.
I can’t stop drawing, not things I can see but things which float in my head like a dream,Naoki says. I want to paint them with my own right hand and create something. Drawing is like keeping a diary. Every day is different in what we see and what we hear and what comes into our heads.
My drawings are like my footsteps. My picture diary is proof that I exist. That’s why I can’t stop painting.
It’s an endless pleasure for me when people look at my work and love it.
