Woman stabs 2-year-old girl in back at Yokohama shopping mall
YOKOHAMA -- A 2-year-old girl was left with serious injuries after a woman stabbed her in the back in an underground shopping mall on Friday morning, police said. The girl, Nana Ohashi, from Yokohama's Naka-ku, was rushed to Yokohama City University Hospital, where doctors said her injuries were serious but not life-threatening. Police arrested Shio Kikuchi, 29, from Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture, on charges of inflicting injury after she stabbed the girl with what appeared to be a knife at Porta shopping mall near JR Yokohama Station in the city's Nishi-ku at about 10:40 a.m. Nana, accompanied by her 28-year-old mother and a twin-brother, was watching a fountain at the mall, when Kikuchi approached from behind and held the girl in her arms. After the mother said, "What are you doing?" Kikuchi stabbed Nana on the back, police said. Kikuchi's mother reportedly asked police to look for her daughter on Thursday, after she apparently ran away from home. A 42-year-old man in the mall said that he heard a woman cry and saw police officers looking for witnesses. "I feel frightened because there are always family shoppers around here," the man said.
