Super hero movies aren't rocket science and The Dark Knight ticks all the boxes that are expected of these types of movies. It's occasionally annoying, but for the most part an entertaining movie that tries to touch on some issues that are begging to be explored (e.g. ideas of vigilanteism). I suspect that if it wasn't for Heath Ledger's performance and subsequent death, it would probably do a decent box office and then make it's money in DVD sales. But Heath Ledger is brilliant (and I'm not really a fan). He's like a car crash, when he's on screen you can't take your eyes off him. If he doesn't get an academy award for this there is something seriously wrong. The movie gets 2 stars (out of 5), and I'll give another 2 stars just for Heath Ledger. Christian Bale doesn't look happy but why would he, looking the super hero can't compete with a clown who can do magic tricks with a pencil.
What I really find annoying is that movies are getting too long. It's getting pathetic. The editing suite is becoming the laziest part of a film production. Editors, do your job! snip snip snip. It's OK to cut the boring bits out. I know the Lord of the Rings fans are all very grateful that you made a halfway decent 90 minute film into a 4 hour snore fest, but Lord of the Rings fans are freaks. Most people want you to do your job.
